Why Valley?
The Valley Program is a Mesa County Valley School District #51 Academic Options program for grades 9 - 12. We are located on the Career Center campus at 2935 North Avenue in Grand Junction. Our program provides an alternative academic option for students who are struggling to be successful in a tradiational high school setting. We provide direct and independent instruction in smaller classroom settings, hands on & project based learning, and adjustible pacing to support student graduation plans.
Valley Philosophy
Valley takes students where they are when they come to us and moves them forward from that starting point. We see each student as an individual person with unique strengths, interests, and goals. For some students, Valley strives to rekindle an interest in education when they are disengaged and disenchanted. For others, our program provides opportunities to accelerate their learning and to seek a deeper understanding of subjects for which they have a passion. We believe in our mission statement: The Valley community builds relationships to stoke an everlasting curiosity within students, while developing their perseverance and problem solving skills, equipping them for future success.
The team of professionals at Valley hold students, and each other, accountable for what we are all capable of, not what we are comfortable with, through academic and social experiences that change the way students see themselves and their world.
As part of our efforts to embed and assist in developing skill sets for students at Valley, we have adopted the Discovery curriculum. The Valley staff will continue to focus on and support student's academic needs in English, Math, Social Studies, and Science, while embedding Social and Emotional Learning (support systems).
